“The universe whispers until it screams, and happy people listen while the call is still quiet.”

– Brianna Wiest

The weeks leading up to Christmas often carry a frenetic energy. The colder weather, the rush to wrap up projects, the endless shopping lists—everything seems to demand our attention at once. It’s easy to find ourselves swept up in the urgency of it all.

We might sense an urge to slow down, a small, quiet voice gently nudging us to step back and recharge. But the world, with its relentless agenda, pulls us forward, demanding: Keep going, keep pushing.

Then, as it often happens, life intervenes. We drop a weight on our toe at the gym (see my picture below) wake up with a stiff neck after too many hours at a screen, or encounter something worse.

Suddenly, everything stops. We have no choice but to rest or pause. The body remembers as they say.

It can feel like the universe has gone from whispering to screaming, forcing us to finally pay attention. And we can’t help but reflect on how often we ignore those subtle signs—our inner guidance system urging us to listen, to care for ourselves.

For many of us, listening to that inner whisper doesn’t come naturally. We thrive on being busy, on the noisy momentum of deadlines and activities. But when we ignore the whispers, life has a way of sending louder signals.

Ancient wisdom across cultures reminds us to look inward, to pay attention to the quiet knowing inside us. Yet, in the rush of modern life, it’s so easy to forget.

As we move through this busy season, let’s remind ourselves to listen while the call is still quiet. It’s in those moments of stillness that we find the clarity and calm we need to truly show up for the people and things we care about most.

Is there something that your inner self has been whispering to you?

Sometimes, we can feel stuck in a rut when we are on the verge of expanding or working towards becoming a new version of ourselves. When we feel stuck, life can feel more messy, scary, and complicated than usual.

At these times, it can be easy to sink back into familiar ways of being. Childhood conditioning or narratives inherited from the broader culture keep us small and afraid. Shrinking back into safe, tried, and true ways of being that keep us small and miserable, we may feel a pseudo-security.

But if we are inspired to expand, those old ways of being won't fit either, and we may find ourselves in the space in between. These times of transition are challenging.

But what if we could honour and acknowledge our in-betweenness and exercise compassion for ourselves?

Maybe we could remind ourselves that showing up in different ways is challenging. It's not easy, so why do we expect it to be? Growth and change are challenging. So, perhaps just acknowledging that we are doing something difficult helps us have patience with the process.

Expansion is messy. We will make mistakes. We will take two steps forward and one step back. In a world of slick images, glossy advertising, photoshopped perfections, aspirational culture, and everything tied neatly in a bow, when we are in transition or on the version of expansion, it can feel like we don't measure up, so we must find ways to remind ourselves that we are worthy and perfect in our process of expansion.

We must remember that it's natural to regroup and go inward before the expansion. Maybe we are researching, rejuvenating, building a foundation, resting, creating a support system, healing, grieving, and all that is OK.

It may be a little bit cliche. But it's a cliche for a reason: a butterfly in their cocoon is preparing. We must remind ourselves that there will be identity shifts. Even though things feel slow, work is happening.

Our psyches are a bit like a vacuum; they absorb fearful sentiments, and we soon find ourselves holding back and lacking courage. And Because so much of the world runs on fear. Between all the killer viruses, inflation, global warming, war, and AI takeover, it can be so easy to feel fearful and even fall into a scarcity mindset

So, when we are feeling fearful, we can do everything possible to fill our minds and hearts with loving, hopeful, and optimistic sentiments. We must consciously decide to live with courage, recognizing the power of our choices. We must remind ourselves that we have agency and the power to shift our outlook. We can choose love over fear, worthiness over unworthiness, abundance over scarcity, and freedom over stuckness.

And when we choose more positive feelings and thoughts, we can bring more light and joy into our lives. We can be a beacon of hopefulness for others, inspiring them to choose positivity as well. We can radiate happiness and love. Filled with hope and love, we can have the energy and vision to improve the world.
